I love studying languages and am passionate about supporting children to reach their language learning potential. I have a variety of experience working with children and young people and some experience teaching English.
When I volunteered with European Voluntary Service in the Spanish town of Silla, I had my first experience of teaching English to children. I tutored small groups of young people aged 14-16 after school to help them with their English qualifications. During the school holidays, I facilitated a holiday school teaching 3–6-year-olds, where I was responsible for teaching English lessons and assisting the teacher to deliver other classes, including arts and crafts and science. Since then, it has been my goal to teach English abroad.
My experience of working with children has taught me valuable skills about motivating children and young people through difficult tasks. For instance, when I was a Team Mentor with the Challenge for NCS (a summer programme for young people in the UK) I learnt how to deliver information in an engaging way, how to handle the concerns of young people sensitively and how to cater teaching and tasks to each individual person.
I am passionate about learning languages myself. I have studied Mandarin for 4 years including 6 months in Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University in Suzhou, China. With experience of studying languages comes an understanding of the language learning process, principles of grammar and pronunciation, which enables me to better support others to meet their own language learning goals. Furthermore, it has given me an appreciation of both the difficulty and the importance of learning new languages.
I am an organised, hard-working and outgoing person with experience teaching English which I believe will make me an ideal candidate for teaching English as a foreign language in Korea.
