* Education & Work Experience *
To shortly introduce myself, my name is Jennifer, I am a 23 year-old American female. I was a student-teacher in a 5th-grade classroom at Thurgood Marshall Elementary. I have experience teaching elementary-level students in a variety of settings. My first classroom experience was my freshmen year at Western Washington University when I served as a peer mentor with the Compass 2 Campus program, encouraging 5th graders to explore and achieve higher education. From there, I had opportunities to collaborate with students by demonstrating sensitivity towards their identity, ideas, and perspectives with local Bellingham elementary schools. As I transferred to the UWB, I was able to intern with One City Project at a Dual Language (English and Vietnamese) Program at Cascade Middle school in a 6th-grade classroom. The Title-1 6th-grade classroom requires a customized instructional approach for the students to have a chance to reach their full potential despite the adversities they face. In an increasingly diverse world, it is important to incorporate different cultures, customs, and beliefs into the daily curriculum so as to foster individual student success. Schools are the glue that keeps communities strong, vibrant, and encourages student achievement.
