* Education & Work Experience *

My educational background includes a B.S. in Business Management from Oklahoma State University and a M.A. in International Development from Tulane University. The degree programs taught me how to clearly and concisely discuss, write and present academic papers, and comprehend a wide variety of academic topics. Also, I have a 100-hour TEFL certificate from Oxford Seminars. The certificate program has developed my skills in such areas as classroom management, lesson planning, and teaching strategies.

I taught English as a Second Language for the past year and a half to adult refugees at Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas in Kansas City. Each class had a diverse mixture of ages, ethnicities, and educational backgrounds. These classes helped me become flexible with lesson planning and more aware different learning styles.

Prior to this time, I served as a teaching assistant at Tulane University in New Orleans. I led weekly group discussions on international development theory and advised students on individual research projects. As a teaching assistant, I tracked students¡¯ progress and provided feedback on students¡¯ performance.

I have six years of experience teaching English as a second language to youth and adults in South Korea and Samoa. In South Korea, I worked for Edu-KASA offering English lessons to low-income elementary students in Seoul. The organization provided annual ESL teacher training and in-class observations to improve our effectiveness as teachers.

During my time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Samoa, I taught English, mathematics, and computer literacy to students at Palauli Sisifo District High School. The Samoan Ministry of Education provided monthly teacher trainings for district faculty to share experiences, knowledge and best practices.
