There are several things a native English teacher must do after arriving in Korea

Firstly, A native English teacher should take a medical examination. This is not a general physical examination, but a drug test. After a medical examination, A teacher should go to the immigration office in order to apply for a registration card for foreigners.

Foreign instructors can have their own cell phones in their own names and open bank accounts, get their medical insurance with foreign registration cards. Teachers should know that they must not leave Korea for a trip abroad before receiving the alien registration card.

One of my teachers was in trouble because she did not know the rule about the alien registration card. A British female instructor entered the country and applied for a foreign registration card after undergoing a physical examination. Then the Lunar New Year holiday began immediately.

The instructor did not receive a foreign registration card because of the holidays, So, she went on a trip to Taiwan. When She went back to Korea from her trip, She found that her visa had been canceled. She was embarrassed a lot and the school was shocked as well.

The school had to spent time and money to get her visa again. She was sent to Japan to get her visa from the Korean consulate in Fukuoka.

Secondly, The teacher should be registered at the local education office, which is the last stage of teacher registration in Korea, This process should not be omitted. Sometimes, hagwons do not register the teachers with the education office because they think the important work is done once the immigration office work is completed. However, the teachers should be registered at the local education office and then, the whole process related to native English teachers would be completed.
