GEPIK Internship is inviting individuals to teach English to Students and to experience and learn about Korean culture. Sponsored by the GEPIK (Gyeonggi English Program in Korea ) GEPIK will sponsor people interested in gaining personal and professional enrichment through learning and teaching in Korea .

Applicants must have completed the first two year of study Within the chosen degree program and be a university student at the time of lodging an application, OR have earned a Diploma by completing a minimum 2 year post-secondary education (e.g. Community college, vocational college).

¢º Job Description

GEPIK teachers are required to conduct beginner to intermediate English classes at an assigned Gyeonggi school, usually team-teaching with a Korean ¡°co-teacher.¡± Teachers may also be asked to participate in various other extra-curricular programs such as English Day camps, English Speech contests, and quite often, English classes for Korean teachers.


¢º Eligibility

All GEPIK Internship applicants must be a native citizen of one of the seven major English speaking countries: Australia , Canada , New Zealand , United Kingdom , Ireland , US, and South Africa .

- Be mentally and physically capable of performing the specified responsibilities and duites.
- Have the ability and willingness to adapt to Korean life style and culture.
- Be able to communicate in English fluently with clear and distinct pronunciation.

¢º Working Conditions

- School Type: Public School
- Location: All over Gyeonggi-do
- Distance from Seoul: 30min~1hr by subway or bus
- Age group: Grade 1 st ~6 th / Grade 7 th ~9 th / Grade 10 th ~12 th
- Salary: 1.6/1.7/1.8 mil won per month
(depends on Qualifications, please refer to pay scale info below)
- Working hours: 22 hours per week

The Contract is renewable after completion. GEPIK teachers are required to work approximately 8 hours per day, 5 days per week from Monday to Friday. Actual class instruction hours usually do not exceed 22 hours per week although it depends on the size of the school.


¢º Benefit

A. Accommodation: GEPIK offers decently (pre-)furnished housing including kitchenware, a washing machine, a refrigerator, a TV set, etc. Any and all fees, charges, costs, taxes, expenses, etc. incurred while using the facility however will be borne by the teacher.

B. Airfare: GEPIK teacher's flights to and from Korea are reimbursed by their schools upon arrival and departure respectively. If the teacher renews the contract for an additional year, he/she will be entitled to a 2 week (including weekends)¡±Home Leave¡± and the airfare for this vacation is reimbursed upon returning to Korea.

C. Paid Vacation: GEPIK offers either 14days paid annual leave per year which should be used during school vacation periods usually in the months of July-August and/or January-February. Teachers do not work during weekends or Korean national Holidays, unless agreed upon for any special circumstance that may arise.

D. Other Deductions:

- Tax: The 1 st two years of employment in Korea are TAX FREE (except for Canadian citizens). Tax is nominal in Korea , only about 3% of yearly earnings.

- Pension Fund: 9% of the monthly salary goes to the Korean national pension fund. The teacher's contribution is 4.5% and the other 4.5% is paid by school. Citizens from the U.S and Canada may reclaim this pension payment with premiums at the end of their contract. South African teachers are exempted from the Pension fund.

- National Health Insurance: About 2.5% of the teacher's monthly salary is deducted and another 2.4% is paid by the school.

*Category 3 is a pre-requisite criterion for Category 1 or 2
