Teaching Privates

Some teachers decide to take private jobs outside of the employment contract. Teaching privates is strictly illegal in Korea for foreigners under the E-2 visa.

Penalties vary but common ones are as follows:

A fine of 1 million won or more
Deportation from Korea (Exit order within 15 days)
A five year re-entry ban from Korea
A report to the embassy of your country
Imprisonment if you are unable to pay your fine

Teaching Privates are legal for teachers under F2-1 or F5 visas, however it would be recommended to check with your employer to ensure that teaching outside of your school is not a breach of contract.
