Why should you come to Korea to teach English?

If you have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject and are a native speaker of English then you can teach English in Korea.

There are many good reasons to teach in Korea:

Pay and housing--
The pay is probably the highest of anywhere in the world, except possibly for Japan, but the cost of living in Japan more than nullifies the slightly better pay. The pay ranges from about 1.6 to about 2.5 million won ($1,200 -$1900 dollars US), but the buying power in Korea is more like $1,600 -$2,500. A few locations offer even more.

In addition, most teachers supplement their income by teaching privately and typically earn an extra 50% to 100% more by doing so. It is not uncommon for teachers to make over 3 million won a month total ($2,300.00 U.S).

The income tax in Korea is quite low. Most teachers only pay about 3.5%. If you are an American you are completely exempt from American federal income tax on the first $70,000. That means no income tax for probably about 3 years!

Virtually all employers offer free housing. The housing is usually shared, but it is not impossible to find jobs offering unshared accommodations -- usually a studio apartment.

With all of the above taken into consideration a typical job teaching English in Korea is roughly equivalent to a job in the U.S. that pays about $4,000.00 a month -- and that's not bad.

Location--
Korea serves as a perfect location for traveling. Beijing is just about an hour's flight away. Japan is only about an hour's flight in the other direction. Many teachers like going down to Hong Kong or farther to Thailand, Singapore, and even to Australia or New Zealand.

Food--
Korean food is excellent, particularly the marinated beef or pork that you will cook yourself on the built-in grills in the center of most Korean restaurant table tops.

Getting around--
Taxies in Korea are quite inexpensive and there are many of them to flag down. The buses cost only about 50 cents as does the subway system. The subway systems in the major cities are the best and newest in the world, with very large, spacious cars.

So come to Korea to teach English, you won't regret it
